Owners & BBQ experts Laura and John DeMatteis opened Up In Smoke in August of 2009, with a vision of creating Buffalo’s ultimate barbecue experience. Experts in the fine art of low and slow smoking, as well as an extensive background in holistic living, the DeMatteis’s have spent their lives in pursuit of healthy foods that explode with flavor. Before creating their first masterpiece, they vowed to only use the finest ingredients available, and prepare each dish with an infusion of patience, passion and love.
Their passion for sustainable, healthy living is reflected not only in the food they serve, but their lifestyle as well. They have lived off the grid for 10+ years and live in a self sustainable home called an Earthship, in the Bighorn Mountains. John sells organic food for a major manufacturer and Laura has been a holistic health practitioner for over 25 years.
